The former Bi-Comp building in downtown York was a hive of activity July 17. Construction workers were paving the parking lot, painting, sanding, drilling and wiring. Designers roved around with carpet samples. Rooms once empty were crowded with equipment or partitioned with new walls.

It’s been more than a year and a half since Think Loud – comprised of Bill Hynes and Live band members Chad Taylor, Patrick Dahlheimer and Chad Gracey – purchased the four-story structure on East York Street. It’s been about seven months since Hynes and Gracey walked through the space, viewing early stages of construction.

Since then, Think Loud has announced the creation of United Fiber & Data, a company which plans to build a fiber optic communications line through the Mid-Atlantic region. UFD will occupy the second floor of the 47,000-square-foot building. It will have an open floor plan to foster a collaborative work environment for 45 to 75 employees, Hynes said during a July 17 tour of the space. Read more about it. Look back at what was happening in January.

Hynes said he’s confident that renovations will be done by Sept. 1. He’s a little less confident that the project will come in on the original $10-million budget. His hope is that United Fiber & Data and Idea Tree will be working in the building by Oct. 1. There won’t be a public opening, but Hynes said private tours could be arranged to view the space.
